The value of 'Values'

Well, I had the most brilliant day on my young horse, Riley, yesterday. We went to a show-cross and managed a 5th in the pairs, and a 3rd individually later.
The most remarkable thing was how I turned a problem around without thinking!
Riley got very strong in the pairs class and I was in serious danger of disappearing onto the horizon. Thanks to my partner, Sue, we came home in one piece but it seemed as if the new magic Kimblewick had run out of effect.
Enter values. Now, I know that control is the most important thing for me in riding, in jumping especially. So, I entered the individual class with the aim to get back that control and enjoy the round.
Riley was very displeased to be jumping again (normally does 1 round only) and had some sillies at the practice fence. As I know he hasn't a bad bone in his body, I just set off round the show jumps as normal - and low and behold a magical round with just one fence down. It was the first time I had cantered an entire showjumping round and it felt good. The cross-country was a breeze - wow did we have some fun!
Control well and truly back, with no great effort, just belief in my value and the honesty of my horse.
Thanks Riley - now just to work on my hands, they keep creeping up in the air.....
